Summer Wish List

I can't believe tomorrow is already July!! Summer is going by way too fast--partially because the weather this year has been so freaking amazing. We normally have a rainy June, but this whole month has been sunny and warm and beeaauuutiful (but shhh, don't tell anyone--it's already too expensive to live in Seattle, we don't need anyone else moving here!). The longest day of the year has come and gone, but we still have a good stretch of summer ahead. I'm planning to savor it, get outside, and enjoy the sun as much as possible! And before summer is over, I also want to get a few things...

Summer wish list // At Home in Love

1. Breezy patterned pants: I'm looking for some lightweight pants that I can wear to work without being so HOT. Tight jeans and summer heat are not my favorite combination. / 2. Colorful statement necklace: For some reason, I really feel like I need this necklace (even thought I have plenty of jewelry already). It's just so unique and fun! / 3. Gold sandals: I love Swedish sandals, and I've been wanting to get a new pair. I think this metallic gold would be perfect (and go with everything!) / 4. Instax Smartphone Printer: This printer prints photos from your phone on Instax film (so you can turn your Instagrams into real Polaroids). So FUN--I want one! / 5. Bed for our guest room: We're working on our guest room (slowly but surely) and we need a bed. I thought a Jenny Lind bed might be a good option...they're so cute, and would transition nicely into a kid's room in the future. A full one would be ideal so it could work for couples, too!

What have you been up to so far this summer? And what's on your wish list?

DIY Face Vase

I’m starting the week with a DIY--yay! I’ve had this one planned in my head forever. Remember this post I wrote way back in January? Yep, I’ve been meaning to make this project since then. In fact, I had all the supplies gathered and sitting in our guest room, and just kept putting it off. I finally had some time to finish it this weekend, and I don’t know why I waited so long…it took me less than a half hour to complete! So don’t be intimidated.

DIY Face Vase

How to DIY your own face vase

You will need:
A vase that looks kind of like a head (I found this one at a thrift store for $2!)
White spray paint
A pencil (I know there's a Sharpie in the picture, but I decided a pencil would be better)
White puff paint

pencil

Start by spray painting the vase white, using multiple thin coats. Once the paint is dry, lightly draw your face with pencil. You can practice on some paper first, to get an idea for what you want. If you mess up, no worries--you can just erase the pencil and resketch it.

How to DIY a face vase with puff paint

Trace the pencil marks with your puff paint. Let it dry completely.

DIY Face Vase

Give the vase one last coat of white spray paint, to cover any pencil marks and even everything out. Then fill with flowers or plants--whatever you want.

That’s it! Such an easy way to make your own face vase. I think it looks decently similar to the Jonathan Adler ones, and the whole thing cost me less than $5, since I already had a pencil and white spray paint.

Hope you like this project! Let me know if you try it.

Hotel Henriette

We just finished booking all of the accommodations for our Europe trip (woohoo!). I’m super excited to move on to the fun part--planning our itineraries. But first, I wanted to share this darling hotel I came across when I was researching places to stay in Paris. It’s actually fairly affordable too! We aren’t staying there (we booked an Airbnb instead) but in case any of you are traveling to Paris and looking for a cute hotel…Hotel Henriette looks super charming.

Hotel Henriette

Love these colors

Split the wall colors in half

Each room has a different look, full of creative and thoughtful details. I especially love all the different walls.

Cool wall

Bedside table and half-painted wall

Tassel garland

Half and half painted wall

How fun would it be to decorate a little boutique hotel like this? I was just feeling kind of sad about how our house is getting pretty full…I know that’s a little weird, but I like the process of decorating. Looking for furniture at thrift stores and antique malls, finding art and tchotckes to fill the blank spaces, etc. It’s not as fun once things start feeling “finished” and there’s not really anything in particular that we need. I know I can always rearrange and update things with the seasons, but there’s something so fun about the beginning part of the process. So decorating an entire hotel like this would be a dream! So many things to shop for ;)

May Instagrams

Before we get too far into June, I wanted to share a round up of some of my Instagrams from May! It was such a fun month--warmer weather, my birthday, and a couple vacations (woohoo!). I've noticed that my blog is often quieter when I'm extra busy in my "real life", so even though I kind of slacked on blog posts this month, I actually posted a lot of 'grams. Here are a few of my faves! How was your month??

Midcentury style nightstand

We got this cute nightstand from Overstock, and I'm obsessed with it! It's a dead ringer for a nightstand I've been eyeing from West Elm--but half the price.

Baskets of fresh waffle cones

With warmer weather comes...ice cream dates, of course! My favorite place in Seattle is Molly Moon's (their honey lavender ice cream is THE BEST). I love that they make fresh waffle cones right there, too.

Floral flats for summer

Very busy

The London Plane // Seattle

The London Plane--this place is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s. And their pastries are delish!

Mmm...croissants

Fabric rainbow

Balayage

I got a hair cut this month, and my first balayage! It's pretty subtle (I kind of wish I'd gotten more color added), but I like it.

Gorgeous peonies

And of course I couldn't resist posting some PEONIES from the farmer's market! I don't care how overgrammed they are, I'll never get sick of peonies.

Cacti

This is from our trip to Texas...I was obsessed with all the cacti. What's the name of the big one that looks like a giant aloe vera plant? Anyone know? I love it.

May Instagrams // At Home in Love

Ben's grandparents have fruit trees, so we picked fresh peaches and plums almost every day. They were sooo good.

Aqua and red

Friday Harbor, WA

After Austin, we took another mini-vacation to Friday Harbor. I love that place! If you live in Washington and have never been, it's definitely worth spending a long weekend there. In fact, if I could figure out a way to earn a living over there, I'd be up for moving...that's how much I like it.

Giant party balloons

Part of the reason we went to Friday Harbor in the first place is because I signed up for a Be Crafty workshop that was held in an old barn there. It was so fun!

At Home in Love Instagrams

Overall, it was just really nice to have some vacation time together, get some sun, and not look at a computer screen for a full week (!!).

Donuts!

And that was my May, in a nutshell! Tell me about yours...and if you'd like to follow me on Instagram, I'm @athomeinlove. Come say hi!
