5 Simple Spring Cleaning Tips

This is a collaborative post. All opinions are my own.

Around this time of year, I always get the itch to spring clean. When the sun is out, it’s easy to notice things that slipped under the radar all winter, such as dirty windows, smudges on the mirrors, marks on the flooring, and so on. Spring cleaning is a great way to clear dust, dirt and grime, and keep your home safe for members of the family with allergies.

Choose where to start

Getting started on your spring clean can seem overwhelming. The to-do list will be growing by the minute and you might be tempted to hire someone to help you get everything done. Making a plan can make the whole thing seem less daunting. The best place to start is the worst area in the house. Choose the room that needs the most work and focus entirely on that room alone, instead of thinking about the whole house. Seeing dramatic results there will be motivation to keep you going.

Clear the junk

Sometimes it’s not about cleaning; it’s about decluttering. You can’t get to the dirt and grime until you’ve moved everything out of the way. As you go, you're bound to run into junk you've accumulated that you no longer need or use. I know it can be difficult to part with things...espeically if you spent money on it, it was a gift, or you think it could come in handy in the future. But but be honest with yourself. Are you really going to use it? Be cutthroat about what you keep in your home, as clutter is a real mental drain. Donate useful items to your local thrift store. As for the trash, most cities have a service that will come and pick up your unwanted items so you don't even have to deal with them. Many of them will even come out on the same day, such as https://www.samedayrubbishremoval.com.au/.

Work from top to bottom

Many people forget to look up to the ceiling when doing a spring clean. You could easily miss cobwebs, paint chips, hairline cracks and more while spring cleaning. When you start cleaning room by room, start from the top and work your way down. Working from the ceiling down will also force any debris onto the floor, so you won’t have to re-clean areas as you go.

Use the right tools

Using a steam cleaner can save a lot of time. That’s because it’s an ideal tool for a lot of different jobs. For instance, a steam cleaner can clean stains from your furniture and mattresses, clean bathroom tiles and different types of flooring. It’s also a great way to kill any bacteria you’re unaware of and avoid using chemicals to clean around the home. I also have some Norwex microfiber cloths I really like. They make it quick and easy to wash windows and get rid of smudges and fingerprints on our stainless steel appliances. We also have a handheld vacuum that makes vaccuming a breeze, especially for areas like the stairs where the full size vacuum is a pain to use.

Treat yourself

When you're done, reward yourself for all your hard work. Buy a bouquet of flowers, a potted plant, or a new decorative item that puts you in a spring mood. It can be the final touch to make your home feel extra beautiful!

Spring cleaning always has a positive effect on my mood, and it clearly improves my home too. Do you do annual spring cleaning?
